Types Of Card Marking

Card marking is the process by which playing cards are altered in a method that would be evident to the conspirator or marker. It is often done to chat at gambling or while doing card tricks. The distinguishing marks are done on the obverse sides of the playing cards. Some of the types of markings are mentioned below:

  • Luminous Marking– This type of marks is visible and can be read by the help of special stratagem sunglasses or contact lenses. The new luminous technology uses sophisticated techniques based on chemicals to mark the cards.
  • Video-Luminous Marking– These card marks can neither be traced by naked human eyes nor luminous filter. They are visible only by using custom-designed filters that are displayed on a monitor in another room and is read by a partner. These are more often used during a magic show.
  • Juice-Marking– The juice-markings are visible to a person who is trained well to read the marks. No filtered glasses are required to read these marks, just some practice is sufficient. Though, normal glasses can be used to spot the marks easily.

One way of identifying the marked card is to watch the back of the cards minutely, while you are riffling the deck. When you riffle the deck, it creates an animation effect of a flip-book and allows you to see the differences between the cards while they are moving. Of course, you need professional eyes for it.
